Installers & Technical Support

Liam Anderegg

Introducing our newest team member in Carleton Place: Liam Anderegg.  Liam hails from Crysler, Ontario a small town farming community between Cornwall and Ottawa.  Born and raised on a dairy farm, Liam helped his family milk 115 head of cattle – now that is a lot of work!  While in High School, he played football and hockey for the St. Thomas Aquinas Ravens in Russell, Ontario.

Liam moved to Ottawa for college to take a 2 year HVAC and computer programming course, but like a true country boy, he wasn’t a fan of sitting at a desk all day so he tries to get out biking.  There is nothing Liam loves more then a 3-4 hour bike ride, feeling the wind and listening to some tunes.  During college, Liam meet his girlfriend, Hayat, a first generation Canadian.

After college, Liam worked for a couple of HVAC companies and a duct cleaning company, but he has found his home at Friendly Fires.  Welcome to the team in Carleton Place!!!

Russell Horne

Russell is the newest graduate from St. Lawrence College to join our installation team in Kingston.  Born in St. Agathe des Mont in Quebec, Russell’s family moved to Oakville where he spent his formidable years.  After graduating from college with a diploma in home renovations and construction, Russell decide to enroll at St. Lawrence College in the Energy Systems Engineering Technologies Program (ESET).  While at St. Lawrence he volunteered with Enactus and he helped create the program “Grounds to Heat” – pelletizing the coffee grinds from Tim Hortons to be tested in pellet stoves.  Up against 57 colleges, Russell’s team finished second place in the Green Challenge.

Personally, Russell has been involved with the installation of solar panels on his family’s home and their cottage is off the grid, creating power from solar panels.  Excited about pellet technology and saving money on his heating bills, Russell recently installed a wood pellet insert at home.  Russell and his partner Chelsea met while he was at college and live in Bath with their three dogs, Sammy, Lilly and Tucker. When he is not hanging at home, Russell loves the outdoors.

Jake Mesman

Welcome to Kingston, our newest G2 Gas Fitter, Jake Mesman.  Jake graduated from the Heating and Cooling program at Algonquin college.  After working for an HVAC company in Cornwall, Jake was one of the first in his family to move away from the beautiful little town of St. Andrews Ontario – he was Saskatoon bound.  Realizing the cost of living in the prairies was crazy, he came back to Ontario and settled in the quiet little town of Enterprise with his girlfriend, Aylssa.  While in Enterprise, Jake worked in the HVAC industry.

Jake recently finished restoring his old boat and has enjoyed a bit of fishing this year, but his specialty is brewing beer from scratch.  He insists that brewing from scratch was much better then brewing from the kits.

Brett Jankura

Brett started with Friendly Fires in August of 2006, and is an Installer Apprentice.  Adding solar expertise to the Friendly Fires team, Brett relocated to Orono from the Kingston area, has a G3 gas fitter licence and has completed an “Energy Systems Engineering Technologies” course from St. Lawrence College in Kingston.  Brett spent the summer interning with Quantum Renewable Energy installing FIR, MicroFIT and off-grid solar systems.

On the weekends, you will find him on his snowmobile, BMX bike or out on the water boating or sailing.  But mostly, James enjoys spending time with his wife Holly.

Andrea Drake

Andrea was born and raised in Peterborough.  Although she is new to the fireplace industry (joined Friendly Fires in 2013), she brings many years of customer service experience to our team.  She is very excited to be a part of the Friendly Fires family and when she is not looking after our customers, she is looking after her dance students who want to learn the Moves Like Jagar.  She is a dance instructor with her husband (Randy) of twenty years.  She also loves to get her hands dirty in the garden and loves going to the mall with her daughter, Taylor.    She also has a fur family ….Shania (the dog) along with Lilo & Stitch (the cats) and the smallest member of her fur family is Sierra the lop-eared rabbit.  Sure hope Taylor doesn’t bring home any more animals…

Gilles joined the Friendly Fires team in 2012 and spends his time in the field and also Managing and supporting our Kingston warehouse.

Jan Broeders

Growing up on a farm on Wolfe Island with 10 brothers and sisters, Jan is one of the newer members of our installation team and a welcome addition.  If there is one thing that farming demands of an individual, it’s that you have to be good at just about everything.  You need to be a mechanic, a carpenter and a biologist. You need to have a good head for business and a really rock solid work ethic.  Jan is an incredibly hard worker and his generalist skills are an excellent asset to our installation team.  Although only with us a short time, we hope that Jan will pursue technical certifications and continue to advance within our installation team.  Jan graduated with a diploma in Agriculture from Kempville College. During summer months, he and his wife Alex operate a successful organic CSA farm & market garden, supplying individuals and local restaurants with local, tasty organic veggies.  Jan and Alex have two lovely young children, Malcolm & Ben.
