How to clean your fireplace glass for the holidays!

Gathering around the fireplace with family and friends on those chilly winter days can’t be beat. In times like this the fire can be hypnotizing, but if your glass is dirty it can interfere with your enjoyment of the fire.

Here are some do’s and don’ts on how to keep your gas and wood fireplace and stove glass clean over the holidays, and year round.

Don’t use household glass cleaners like Windex, Mr Clean, etc.

Regular household cleaners are not formulated for cleaning high-heat surfaces. Using windex or the like could burn into the glass and permanently etch them. The only way to remedy this is to replace the glass.

For this reason it is imperative that you use the correct cleaners such as those listed below.

Cleaning Gas Fireplace & Stove Glass

Use a cleaner made specifically for cleaning gas stoves. Our gas fireplace cleaner is designed for use on gas and propane fireplaces, freestanding stoves and fireplace inserts.  It is designed specifically to remove the white haze (mineral deposits) that accumulates on the glass.

Make sure the unit is off and cool before beginning. Apply a small amount of glass cleaner using a soft towel, preferably cotton. Wipe off any excess with a separate dry towel.

Cleaning Wood & Pellet Stoves

Wood and pellet stoves require a deeper cleaning more often as creosote can build up over time. Using dry wood with proper air control can prevent a lot of unnecessary build up, but some blackening of the glass is inevitable over time.

Use a professional high grade cleaner, our Wood Glass Cleaner is an all-in-one cleaner that removes smoke residue, soot, ash, dust, creosote build-up and burned on carbon deposits on contact. It cleans without harsh fumes and caustic chemicals. Both our technicians and our customers love this product.

Make sure the fire is out and the glass is cool. Then simply spray on, let stand for 2-3 minutes, then wipe with water soaked cloth, then with dry cloth.
